20 Week Ultrasound
You're about half way there. At this point you should be feeling pretty good now, morning sickness should have passed (however for some women it does not) and some of your other symptoms may have gradually slowed down.
At about 20 weeks you will have another ultrasound. This ultrasound is done the traditional way with a Doppler wand on your belly (unlike your first ultrasound). It is important to have a full bladder before you go in as this will allow the doctor to see the baby better. Depending on the doctor you may have an option to use a 3D Ultrasound. However, most doctors will still use the traditional 2D Ultrasound.
The exciting part of the 20 week ultrasound is if you have not taken any blood genetic testing, you can see what sex the baby is going to be. Your baby's fetal organs are formed at this point, however they are still developing. At this exam the doctor will see if all the organs are developing correctly and if he/she sees any abnormalities. If abnormalities are identified, additional testing must be done to confirm - this is because the baby could be sitting in a weird angle and does not want to move. The doctor will also check the baby's growth to make sure that the baby is on track with the due date.
