Braxton Hicks
Or sometimes called fake contractions. They usually start around the end of your second trimester. This contraction is a tightening of your abdomen and feels almost like a period cramp. They usually don’t last long. Braxton Hicks does not cause a woman to go into labor because it does not affect the cervix.
The best way to tell if you are having Braxton Hicks contractions versus the real contractions is based on the following:
- Contractions come and go
- Contractions do NOT get stronger as time passes
- Contractions do not come closer together
- Contractions stop if you move into a different position
- Contractions are not painful and the pain is usually in the front and does not radiate to the back
Ways to help deal with Braxton Hicks is to:
- Drink water
- Take a walk
- If you have been walking, then taking a nap or resting may help
