Questions to ask in First PreNatal Visit
Here is an example of questions you may want to ask on your first appointment. Remember no question is stupid and every pregnancy is different. Also you shouldn't be embarrassed to ask any question because you are putting your life and your baby's life into your doctor's hands.
- Scheduling of appointments (some doctors will let you schedule these ahead of time)
- How much weight and at what rate should you be gaining (also foods that you should eat and avoid)
- What are you testing for and is there a way for me to do more
- Prenatal vitamin recommendations (most OBs should have samples for you to try)
- What symptoms should you expect and how to manage them
- Things to look out for
- Medications to use in case you get sick (flu, headaches, morning sickness etc) and the dosage
- Risk of any complications
- Any issues with sex during pregnancy
- Any exercise to do or avoid during pregnancy
- If I experience any complications who should I call/when should I go to the hospital
- Travel limits
- How long will they let you go past your due date
- Which doctor will be on call when the time comes to deliver (which hospitals are they affiliated with)
- What would cause you to have a Cesarean and/or episiotomy
